Caring Resources for Hospice Patients,

Hospice Caregivers, and Nurses

"A very helpful and beautifully written book for patients and caregivers who are going through the dying process. The author's years of experience as a hospice nurse come through as she gives practical and comforting information about every aspect that comes up in going through dying. This book is not only good for patients and their caregivers, but also for students and clinicians in healthcare. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand what to do when you are either going through this yourself or wanting to help someone who is dying."

—Dominic O. Vachon M.Div., Ph.D., Director of the Ruth M. Hillebrand Center for Compassionate Care in Medicine, University of Notre Dame

“A delightful and useful book of inspired and informative approaches to sustain self in midst of human suffering... These authors combine their triangulated background, experiences, and expertise, to offer a kaleidoscope of treasured practices for this time.”

–Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, LL (AAN)

“This book is recommended for any nurse who wishes to get started on the path to self-care. Add this to your bookshelf for healing in the pandemic and beyond.”

Dorrie K. Fontaine RN, PhD, FAAN, Dean Emerita and Professor Emerita, University of Virginia School of Nursing

ABOUT ME

I have been a nurse for 27 years and am certified in Hospice and Palliative Care (since 2009). I helped to take care of my mom when she died in 1998 and realized the profound nature of this work and the difficulties of caring for someone you love. I started working as a hospice nurse in 2006 and continue to feel a deep call to this work. I presently work in a small in-patient hospice home.

I write and educate about end-of-life care because I hope to demystify death and dying so that more people will walk toward this powerful life event rather than run away from it. I want everyone to exit this world knowing their wishes will be respected, they will be taken care of, and they will be comfortable in the final stage of their beautiful life.
